Top performance despite the extra-long tool adaptor

Designed for drilling depths of up to 5 x D and employed here as a sporty indexable insert drill, the KOMET KUB Pentron™ literally surpasses itself - or rather its length/diameter ratios - with its outstanding performance. In comparison to the carbide-tipped competition, it is always considerably quicker with feed rates of more than 70 % more.

The new KOMET KUB Pentron™ are indexable insert drills that were designed for length/diameter ratios of up to 5 x D and represent an integrated tool concept for the user. This makes them particularly of interest for machining work on large gearbox housings, for example, with a variety of bores. The new KOMET GROUP tools get their 'sportiness' from an FEM-calculated basic body and indexable inserts that have been specifically matched to it. Each has two square indexable inserts with identical inner and outer inserts and four fully usable cutting edges. With geometries ranging from all-purpose to soft cutting, through to what is known as chip breaker geometry, modern, high-performance substrates and complementary coatings are available for the widest variety of materials.

Extra long

Extra-long tool adapters, as are often required due to accessibility problems when machining large-volume gearbox housings, create additional limitations on the performance of a drill. This also applies to a KOMET KUB Pentron™. Drills with a 26 millimetre diameter and a length of 130 millimetres can quickly achieve an overall length of 280 millimetres. Despite the cutting data having to be adapted, feed rates of more than 70 % more than carbide-tipped tools are possible. For example, this allows flange bores (dia. 26 mm, GGG50), which have previously been machined at vf 245 mm/min, to be machined with a KOMET KUB Pentron™ at vf 423 mm/min. Given a drilling depth of 75 millimetres and 26 flange bores per component, this represents a reduction in machining time of just under four minutes.

With its brands KOMET®, DIHART® and JEL®, the KOMET GROUP is a leading global manufacturer of precision tools for bore machining, threading and reaming. The group has been at the forefront of innovation in the sector for over 90 years - a tradition that began with the early insert drills and that continues today with their mechatronic tool systems. The company currently employs more than 1,600 staff in its 20 subsidiaries and is represented in around 50 countries.
