Interpolation recess turning enables a turning process to be transmitted to a machining centre. This requires a tool spindle which can be programmed as an axis so that the tool can be guided outwards along a spiral interpolation path at grooving depth. In the process, as for turning, the cutting edge is positioned aligned with the drill hole wall at every point of the circular path.


The  KOMET®  interpolation recess turning tool features replaceable carbide inserts. For roughing and finishing the brake caliper in one work step using the same tool.

 

Functional sequence

    • Insert when stationary
    • Position the cutting edge for roughing
    • Perform roughing operations with a high feed on a spiral interpolation path
    • Position the tool in the centre of the drill hole
    • Position the cutting edge for finishing by turning the tool by 180°
    • Perform finishing operations on a spiral interpolation path
    • Stop the tool and remove it from the drill hole
